Are you walking through a season of grief—whether from loss, change, or uncertainty? Here's gentle, gospel-centered encouragement for the days when hope feels hard to find.

When Grief Moves in

Grief has a way of moving in slowly… and then suddenly taking over everything.

For me, it came crashing in earlier this year when my dad passed away. His death cracked something open in me that I didn’t quite expect. The ache is deep and often disorienting. It touches places I didn’t know were tender.

But that’s only part of the story.

Because grief doesn’t always come dressed in black with a name and a date. Sometimes it creeps in through change. Through transition. Through the slow loss of things you once held tightly—things like your health, your relationships, your community, your calling, your dreams.

In recent months, I’ve also experienced all of this in one way or another. And I won't bore you with details, but suffice it to say... it’s been… a lot.

And I know I’m not the only one carrying things that feel impossibly heavy.

Maybe you’re in a season like this, too.

Maybe you’ve lost someone you love.
Or maybe you’ve lost something less visible but still incredibly painful—security, direction, friendship, dreams.
Maybe you're grieving something you can't even name.

Friend, if that's where you are, I want you to know: you are not alone.

The Kind of Hope That Stays

When everything feels broken or blurry, it’s tempting to believe that hope is out of reach. That you have to be “strong” or “put together” to find peace. That you need to push through the pain and just keep going.

But that’s not the kind of hope the Bible talks about.

Biblical hope is not wishful thinking or forced positivity.
It’s not pretending things aren’t hard.
It’s not a denial of grief—it’s a companion to it.

Hope in Christ says:

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” —Psalm 23:4

It whispers:

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” —Psalm 34:18

It reminds us that:

“We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair… always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.” —2 Corinthians 4:8–10

This is the kind of hope that anchors us when the storm is raging.

The kind of hope I’m clinging to, even now.

I'm Still in It

I wish I could tell you I’ve come out on the other side of this season with all the lessons learned and the loose ends tied up.

But I haven’t.
Not yet.

I still have days where the grief feels like too much.
Days where I question everything.
Days where I feel desperately alone.

And yet—even on those days—I am learning that God hasn’t left me.

He hasn’t walked away because my faith is shaky.
He’s not disappointed when I feel weak.
He doesn’t demand perfection—He simply invites me to come.

Even when I don’t feel Him.
Even when the silence is loud.
Even when my prayers are more groans than words.

He is still here.
And He is still faithful.

A Gentle Invitation

If you’re walking through grief right now—whether it’s loud and raw or quiet and unnamed—I want to gently invite you to pause.

Take a breath.

Remember that your sorrow is seen. Your pain is valid. And your story is not over.

God is not surprised by your sadness. He’s not distant from your struggle. He is with you in it—right here, right now.

And there is grace for you. Right in the middle of your mess.

Journal Prompts

Take a moment today and write down these two questions:

  1. Where have I felt the weight of grief in this season?

  2. Where have I seen—even a flicker—of God’s presence or faithfulness?

You don’t need long, polished answers. Just start writing. Let it be messy. Let it be real. Let it be honest.

Scripture to Hold Onto

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
—1 Peter 1:3

That’s the hope we cling to.
Not a fading hope. Not a fragile hope.
A living hope.

Even when grief moves in, that kind of hope will never move out.
